Science Back Then

The 19th century lasted from 1801 through 1900, during this time The Industrial Revolution began, during this time science was exploding, the invention of reusable electricity, petroleum products and steel which lead to the growth of machines, railways, and steam ships and other mass means of production. This lead to the faster and wider means of communication People were moving away from the agrarian and hunting way of life and became dependent on new technology which came about from the Industrial revolution .This increased the production of consumer goods and also increased factory jobs but also it led to the downfall of the agrarian and hunting and gathering societies. Although the Industrial Revolution did improve and aid technological developments, it was not always looked at in a positive light. It caused many people to lose their jobs as they were replaced by machines. One main group that revolted against the revolution was the Luddites.  The Luddites were a social movement of British Textile artisans who went through the country breaking machines and having violent protests against factories and any individuals who were promoting the use of machinery. Overall the Ludittes along with many other societies preferred the old way of life, they believed that this new knowledge brought about change that wasn’t good or beneficial to them, instead it took away from them.
